Smoking, drinking, eating meat and now moped riding without a helmet. It's not cool anymore! At least, this is what our government has decided. As of January 1, 2023, you will no longer be allowed on the road with your meat hat.
"The slow-moving moped from the Netherlands".
In addition to the moped and other motorized two-wheelers, this rule will now also apply to the moped, or "the slow-moving moped from the Netherlands". The only country in Europe where helmets are not required for this type of slow moped. These mopeds can now be recognized by their blue license plates.
A different street scene
It will take some getting used to; no more nostalgic mopeds with riders without helmets, but with an approved motorcycle or speed pedelec helmet. A what? Yes, a speed pedelec helmet. These are bicycles with a speed of 45 km/h, which already require a helmet.
Safety first
Ah fine, everything, of course, to limit the number of traffic deaths in the Netherlands. I think we all agree on this? We just have to go for it.
Fortunately, we have a nice assortment of helmets available, and we are happy to help you find one that suits you! We have full-face helmets, jet helmets and system helmets. All our helmets have a certification, the ECE mark. So you can safely and legally on the road.
