A new engine case can be useful for more than simply replacing a damaged original. Performance oriented cases can provide additional material in areas where a tuned engine may need porting, machining or a different intake layout. This gives builders more freedom when planning a higher performance Puch engine.
Extra case material creates more tuning possibilities, but every modification should be planned around the complete engine combination. Check cylinder transfer layout, crankshaft clearance, intake design and the other components you intend to use before removing material from a new case.

Start by deciding how the moped will be used. A restoration or street engine has different requirements from a heavily modified race build. The engine case should match the intended cylinder, crankshaft, intake system, ignition and transmission configuration.
Make a list of the cylinder, crankshaft, carburetor or reed intake, ignition and transmission parts you plan to use. This makes it much easier to determine whether a standard replacement engine or a performance engine case is the better starting point.
