Choose the correct exhaust for your Puch

Begin by looking at your current cylinder and frame setup. A fast tuning cylinder requires a different exhaust than a standard 50cc cylinder. You also need to ensure the exhaust physically fits your specific Puch model without interfering with the pedals or stand.

22mm vs. 28mm bend Standard 50cc cylinders run best on 22mm bends. For 65cc, 70cc, or 74cc tuning setups, a 28mm bend provides the necessary gas flow for maximum performance.
Original look vs. Tuning Choose a standard cigar-style exhaust for a stock appearance, or an expansion chamber to maximize torque and top speed at higher RPMs.
Straight vs. Angled flange Standard Puch Maxi cylinders have a straight exhaust port. Some tuning cylinders feature an angled port. Match your exhaust to your cylinder's port design.
Frame & Pedal clearance Wide expansion chambers can sometimes hit original bicycle pedals. Check the product description to see if the exhaust fits with your current pedal setup.

Upgrading your exhaust? Don't forget to upjet!

Installing a faster, more free-flowing exhaust means your engine will process more air. To prevent your engine from running too lean (which can cause overheating or seizing), you typically need to install a slightly larger main jet in your carburetor.

Always do a spark plug chop after installing a new exhaust to ensure your air-to-fuel ratio is correct.

Whether you are replacing a rusty component, changing your moped's sound, or securing a loose pipe, understanding the parts of your exhaust system makes maintenance easier.

Complete exhausts A fully welded or multi-piece system ready to mount, combining the header pipe, expansion chamber, and silencer into one unit.
Silencers (Mufflers) The end section that dampens the sound. Available in materials like aluminum, carbon, or Kevlar to customize your moped's look and acoustic tone.
Header pipes The pipe connecting the cylinder to the exhaust body. Available separately for custom builds or repairs in both 22mm and 28mm diameters.
Gaskets & Fasteners Essential for sealing and security. Always use a new exhaust gasket (copper or fiber) and sturdy clamps to prevent leaks and vibration damage.

Frequently asked questions about Puch exhausts

Do I need a 22mm or a 28mm exhaust?

For a standard 50cc setup, a 22mm exhaust bend is recommended. If you have a tuned 50cc or a larger cylinder (65cc, 70cc, or 74cc), a 28mm exhaust provides the required gas flow for better performance.

What is the difference between a straight and angled flange?

The flange is where the exhaust mounts to the cylinder. Standard Puch cylinders have a straight port pointing straight down. Many aftermarket tuning cylinders have an angled port. You must buy an exhaust that matches your cylinder's port design, or it will not mount correctly.

Do I need to change my carburetor jet when installing a new exhaust?

Yes, usually. A performance exhaust increases airflow through the engine. To compensate and prevent the engine from running lean, you typically need to increase your main jet size by a few steps.

Will a tuning exhaust make my Puch much louder?

Expansion chamber exhausts are generally louder than the original standard cigar models. However, the exact sound level depends heavily on the type of silencer and the condition of the damping wool inside it.

Will this exhaust fit if my Puch Maxi still has pedals?

Not all performance exhausts are compatible with original pedals; some wide expansion chambers will get in the way. We usually mention in the product description whether an exhaust is suitable for mopeds with pedals or if it requires a kickstart setup.
