De Kromme Krukas wins Mopfest Endurance 2025

After a soaking wet first edition of the Mopfest Endurance and a dry edition in 2024, it was once again time during the third edition on Saturday 1 November to pull the rain suits out of the cupboard. At the De Landsard kart circuit, 29 teams in the Puch 70cc Automatic, 50cc Automatic, Tomos >70cc Automatic and Endurance Legends classes would battle each other for the highly coveted challenge trophy.

Mopfest Endurance 2025 had everything: rain, close racing on track with spectacular moves, teamwork along the circuit and, right at the end, even a brief ray of sunshine. But above all, there was loads of sportsmanship and fun!

In the morning, the first drops were already falling and 29 teams prepared to start their free practice on wet tarmac. Organiser Dominique Beens van Flovye gave a briefing beforehand to point out a number of important items to the riders. For the riders who had taken part before, the new rider change procedure took some getting used to: when leaving the track, the kill switch cord had to be taken off the wrist and handed over before the riders were allowed to enter the pit lane.

This guaranteed safety in the pit lane and added an extra dimension to the pit stops: not only a quick rider change, but also sprinting with the machine to the exit of the pit lane could save crucial seconds. At the end of the pit lane, the rider was once again given a kill switch cord and the race could continue.

After 45 minutes of warming up and optimising the setup, it was time for a practice start immediately followed by qualifying. After the chequered flag, HM Racing Team topped the timesheets. They were lapping more than a full second quicker than POEG Performance and Racingteam Staphorst. Last year, HM Racing and Racingteam Staphorst fought for the win right up to the final minute, but would POEG Performance be the big surprise this year, or would the fourth qualified team, De Kromme Krukas, still join the battle for the challenge trophy?

Hans, Henk and Jordi Minnen from HM Racing Team chose this year to race a 50cc Puch instead of a 70cc, and with their pole position they delivered an especially impressive performance. But would they last the full 4 hours, and would they still be the fastest once the rain stopped?

Le Mans start

At exactly 12:30, the race got underway with a spectacular Le Mans start, with Puchshop and Tomoshop owner Sjoerd van der Zee waving the flag. It was Sander Mulder from Racingteam Staphorst who nailed an incredible start. After POEG Performance and the Puchshop Racing Team, the rest of the field followed. They had already disappeared out of sight while Stravos Racing and Racing Team Lopik were still trying to get their machines fired up.

Eventually, all 29 teams were on their way and the gruelling endurance battle in the rain could begin. The POEG Performance team clocked fast lap times and after fifteen minutes took the lead away from Racingteam Staphorst. De Kromme Krukas held on to third place, while the poorly-started Autoservice Delnoije Racing team from the Endurance Legends class was charging through the field and moved up into fourth. After that, the Puch 50cc Automatic teams of BTTS Racing, J&J Junior Team and De Snelle Tapen from the Puch 70cc Automatic class also began to push hard. All of those teams were still on the same lap!

Tomos crash

Soon there were several crashes – mostly harmless low-sides – and technical issues, including a loose sprocket for Racingteam Staphorst. After just over an hour of racing and with the first pit stops completed, only De Kromme Krukas, Autoservice Delnoije and HM Racing were still on the same lap and had built up a considerable lead over the rest.

Unfortunately, Racing Team Staphorst would shortly afterwards have to continue with one rider less: Pascal Mussche suffered a nasty highside and medical assistance on track was required. The race was red-flagged and Mussche had to withdraw from the event with torn ankle ligaments.

Despite many crashes, even among the fastest teams, De Kromme Krukas, Autoservice Delnoije Racing and HM Racing continued to decide the fight at the front. The fastest race lap was set by POEG Performance, but after quickly replacing a broken clutch and fighting their way back from 26th to 9th place, the exhaust bolts on the flange at the cylinder came loose and they had to retire from the race for good.

With about an hour and a half of racing remaining, the rain stopped and the sun even broke through briefly. The track, however, would not dry out completely. HM Racing suffered bitter disappointment in the final phase: with fifteen minutes to go they were second overall and leading their class. With the win almost in the bag, the cylinder of the 50cc Puch seized.

The BTTS team, who were riding a fast and consistent race, took over their position. For De Kromme Krukas, Hugo Satter took the final stint on the Puch. He had a small slide, but the nine-lap lead they had built up was enough to keep hold of the lead. They were flagged after four hours as the winners of the Mopfest Endurance 2025!

Second overall and first in the 50cc class was the impressive BTTS Racing. Third overall and second in the 70cc class was Van Zante Racing, who rode an almost flawless race. Behind them finished Racingteam Staphorst, who, with some quick wrenching, had managed to get their machine ready to race again and, with just two riders, fought their way back towards the podium. The win in the Endurance Legends class went to Autoservice Delnoije Racing with a sixth place overall. In the Tomos class, B-Tuning managed to keep the Tomoshop Racing Team behind them and secured first place.

After the sun had gone down, the winners were honoured in the De Landsard canteen, all teams received a medal and of course a drink: well deserved after four hours of hard graft! Everyone agreed: it was another successful Mopfest Endurance, every reason to already look forward to a fourth edition. That one is already written on the calendar, namely on 31 October 2026!
