Satter wins first renewed Puchshop Racing Cup in Assen

The Puchshop Racing Cup returned to the TT Junior Track in Assen on April 4 with a renewed class structure. In recent years, the series featured two classes: the Expi class and the Standard class. Both classes race with 70cc Puchs, but riders also wanted a class for 50cc machines. This season, the new 50cc Expi class joins the grid.

The new class also brings back a familiar name: Twan Dekkers. Trackside, fans can easily identify each class by the number plate colors. Expi riders use yellow number plates, Standard riders use red number plates, and 50cc Expi riders use blue number plates.

Qualifying at the TT Junior Track

The first qualifying sessions of the new season started on a dry but cold TT Junior Track. The weather stayed dry throughout the day, and the sun slowly warmed the asphalt.

Unfortunately, the morning also brought several crashes. Standard class debutant Lara Langendijk crashed heavily and injured her hand. She had to withdraw from the race day early. Eric de Jong also had bad luck in the Standard class and failed to set a lap time.

Hugo Satter started the season strongly. He set the fastest time in the Expi class, ahead of the surprisingly quick Jordi Minnen. Jannick Vos qualified third. In the Standard class, Gijs Huijsman set the fastest time. In the 50cc Expi class, Rens Straver took the quickest qualifying time.

Race 1

The first race delivered a great battle for victory between Hugo Satter and reigning champion Jannick Vos. Satter led the race, but Vos stayed glued to his rear wheel and waited for a chance to attack.

The fight for third place also delivered strong action. Cousins Jordi Minnen and Timo Minnen battled hard for the final podium position. Behind them, Jan van Ipenburg and Bas Wallet fought for fifth place.

Near the end of the race, Wallet crashed in a highside-style incident. The race was red-flagged, so the previous lap determined the final results. Satter won ahead of Vos. Jordi Minnen finished third ahead of Timo Minnen, while Van Ipenburg took fifth place.

The rider who caused the red flag was not classified. Fortunately, Wallet could start the second race despite a painful shoulder.

Standard class race 1

In the Standard class, Gijs Huisman took the win ahead of Mark Hooijmans and reigning champion Syl Kooistra.

50cc Expi class race 1

In the 50cc Expi class, Rens Straver proved too strong for Thomas Carver and Twan Dekkers.

Race 2

In the second race, Satter immediately opened a small gap to his competitors. He controlled the race from the front and took the win with a 3-second advantage.

Vos had to work hard to keep the Minnen family behind him. He succeeded and finished second. Jordi Minnen held third place until a small mistake in the penultimate lap allowed Timo Minnen to take the final podium spot.

Van Ipenburg finished a distant fifth. Despite his shoulder injury, Wallet secured sixth place.

Standard class race 2

Gijs Huisman took another Standard class victory ahead of Mark Hooijmans. This time, Eric de Jong completed the podium in third place.

50cc Expi class race 2

Rens Straver again dominated the 50cc Expi class. Thomas Carver finished second, while Twan Dekkers retired early in the race.
