The best way to get started on this set is to make sure your workbench or table is clean and organised. Then, before assembly, it is good to check over all the items provided in this kit.

Gaskets

The provided (base) gaskets are not completely made to measure. The best thing to do is to place the gasket on the cylinder base and cut it to the shape of the ports of the cylinder (see picture 1.0). This optimizes the flow of the fuel-air mixture.
Tip: When the gaskets are cut to the right shape, they can be used as a template to increase the size of the ports in the engine block itself, to match the dimensions of those found in the cylinder (recommended for maximal engine power).

Manifold

Chances are that the carburettor and the filter will not fit directly between the cylinder and the frame. By filing the little holes in the manifold (picture 2.0), it can be modified in such a way that the carburettor and filter will fit, even with frame brackets attached (picture 3.0).

Carburetor tune-up

In principle, the jet fi tted in the carburettor should work well with your engine. However, every engine is different. Therefore, jets with sizes 76-78-80 are supplied as well. Please try and see what works for you. The tune-up starts by turning the air adjustment screw 1.5 turns out (from the maximum turned in position, picture 4.0). When the engine is not able to run stationary with the idle air adjustment screw completely in, we recommend to cut of 2 windings of the idle air adjusting screw-spring (picture 5.0).

The 4 bolts of the float tank must be replaced in the same way, because a bolt is shorter!

Setup

We tested this set with a RS cigar-exhaust and with the Jamarcol Biturbo. The eventual top speed is a little higher with the RS cigar but the Jamarcol Biturbo pulls a bit better, it is a matter of taste. When using 16-45 gear ratios, enough forward thrust remains, but 16-42 can be used as well. Timing advance can best be set between 1.2 and 1.4 mm before TDC. Contact points should be between 0.35 and 0.40 mm. Finally, we highly recommend to use an B9HS spark plug.

HAVE FUN!

Let the set break-in carefully, best is to drive the first 200 km (125 miles) with a 2-stroke oil: fuel ratio of 1:40 with Castrol RS or a comparable oil is used. We wish you many safe miles!
